TV watchdogs say they're close to a decision

should be prosecuted for a controversial broadcast in the run-up to the Independence referendum in August.

The chairman of the Broadcasting Commissioners, Mrs Louise Jackson, said last night: "We are still working on it -- but we may have a decision in about a fortnight.'' The Bermuda Broadcasting Company got into hot water for showing pro-Independence speeches filmed at earlier Independence rallies on ZBM TV 9 the night before the referendum was held on August 16.

The Commissioners dealt with a flood of complaints about the programme, which also over-ran the 30 minute time limit set by the Commissioners.

Broadcasting watchdogs launched an immediate inquiry.
