Comedian Wil Sylvince has performed on popular TV shows such as HBO's Def Comedy Jam and Showtime at the Apollo.

Tomorrow night he tackles Bermuda as part of Jokerz 'R' Wild, a comedy show at the City Hall Theatre hosted by Nadanja Bailey.

"I didn't think I would ever do stand up period, 'cause my parents were so against it," the Brooklyn native said of his burgeoning career which includes partnering on a project with NBC and a current tour with three other comedians.

"They wanted me to be an engineer. I went to college and got my degree in electro-mechanical engineering and got a job building/fixing robots.

"My mother used to always say 'You first go to college, then get a good job with benefits, then you'll find a girl, marry and have kids...'

"I had to do comedy behind my parents' back until one day my mother saw me on TV. I swear I didn't think she would see it.

"Showtime at the Apollo came on Saturdays at 1 a.m. and she was in the bed by 10 p.m. Why of all the days she decides to stay up late and watch the Apollo which she never did did it have to be my show?"

But the performance was enough to convince his mother his efforts weren't being wasted, the comedian said.

"When I came home, she was so happy. Once I was on TV she changed her mind."

Admission to Jokerz 'R' Wild is $35. Tickets include two complimentary drinks and are available at New Life Fashions on Dundonald Street, Sound Stage in the Washington Mall and at the door.
