Writer's debut book started life on an Internet website
Cha'Von Clarke penned her first song at the age of six and started writing poetry when she attended primary school.
But she always had a desire to write a book and now that desire has lead to reality and she has brought out her debut novel 'Streets are Listening…God is Watchin'.
The original story started on www.stylebermuda.com and Ms Clarke said: "When I started writing with Style Bermuda, I had an idea of a soap opera and I asked [editor] Shiona Turrini if she was interested."
The tales of Bermy Chicks was welcomed by many of the site's audience and Ms Clarke found that people began asking her on the street for the next installment.
"It is based on five young girls who were very, very good friends, they are successful ladies in their own right. They were hanging up at Captain's Lounge during Happy Hour."
The main character and narrator throughout the book is C, aka Ciera, and her best friend is Baby. "Throughout the book it looks at Baby's life and her spiritual growth. Then we have Kellin, who Baby met in college, and who is one of her sorority sisters.
"Sarai is a thick girl, but she is extremely sensual, Miecah was born in Jamaica, moved to England and now lives in Bermuda.
"Kellin is tall and slender and she is like a model really, but her preference is roughneck kind of guys. Her identical twin is named Kelani and she is quite the opposite of her sister."
The story deals with an abusive relationship that leads to the demise of one of the women and it turns all of the friends upside down. Each is faced with their own set of unique challenges while attempting to hold onto friendship and sanity.
The book takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of astonishing events and the characters are constantly reminded that only God is in control. And they are forced to expose the truths about the abuse, drugs, crime, politics and corruption that now plague a country once known as 'crime free'.
Ms Clarke said: "They've been taught to live secret lives, keeping the world out of their business, but now they are forced to be honest with themselves and the people close to them."
