It was the hottest concert of the summer

Put your hands in the air: The crowd goes crazy during a concert at the National Stadium Friday night which also included Robin Thicke and other hot acts.
Last Friday night was a night hundreds of people had looked forward to for months. It was the night Mary J Blige would make her first appearance on the Island. The night she would amaze her fans and haters alike. Many wondered if she would even show up but show up she did. Ms Mary J Blige entertained, amazed and inspired the audience who stood to their feet during her whole set. She came onstage after two introductions wearing a purple shorts jumper with silver snakeskin peep-toe booties and a fresh cropped blonde do. Ms Blige didn't wow me right away. Her entrance seemed a bit disorganised but once she got into it, her voice stole the show. But let's take it back a bit. First Tami Chynn, who I must add is absolutely gorgeous, and her sister Tessanne Chynn performed. They were followed by one of my favourites, Robin Thicke, who performed his rather sexy set wearing all black. Because Isaw him last month at the Essence Music Festival where he rocked it, Iwas ready for a performance as good or even better. And of course Iwasn't disappointed. He opened with 'Magic' and sang hit after hit including 'Sweetest Love', 'Shooter', 'Teach You A Lesson', 'Lost Without You' and did a few Michael Jackson songs. But it was the ending, when his band joined him at the front for Lil Wayne's 'A Milli', that really made his set off the hook. After nearly an hour of no music or performances which Ithought was in really bad taste Ms Blige began her set. Like Isaid earlier, I didn't really know what was going on at first but once she got into it, the empowerment began. 'No More Drama', 'Real Love', 'Family Affair', 'I'm Going Down', 'Just Fine', 'MVP' and many more songs flowed out of the self-professed Soul/Hip-Hop Queen's mouth. When she sang 'Be Without You', I had tears falling down my cheeks not only because it's my favourite MJB song, but because I could feel it and relate to her. One thing Ican say about her is that passion oozed out of her and I could feel the pain she talked about. And that passion was so inspiring. At one point Ms Blige said she is the best in the game and that threw me a bit because I never took her to be cocky. But she was able to pull it off. The best thing about Ms The best thing about Ms Blige, Ithink, is how real she was and how beautiful voice her voice is. She sounds the same live as she does on her CDs, if not better. But it was the end when her stepdaughter started dancing that made the show for me. She definitely rocked it. If Imust make a closing statement, I would congratulate TOC Entertainment and Heart and Soul for a job well done and for putting on the hottest concert of the summer.
