Jupiter Asset Management (Bermuda) Limited is one of the oldest asset management companies in Bermuda, operating locally for 40 years.

The company was initially founded by a Private Act of Parliament in 1969 in response to the development of what was then the Tyndall Funds Group and the increasing desire shown by investors to utilise the benefits that an offshore structure can provide.

In honour of the company's 35th anniversary in 2004, a scholarship was established and given to college student Bruce Swan.

Mr. Swan, 23 and originally from Devonshire, graduated from Berkeley Institute in 2004 when Jupiter began sponsoring him. He went on to Niagara College in Ontario, Canada from 2004 to 2007 where he gained an Advance Ontario colleges diploma in Business administration. From 2007 to 2008 he attended Lakehead University and received his Bachelor in Business Administration.

He now is studying Law at the University of Leicester which he started last year September 2008. Now, in honour of the company's 40th anniversary, a $30,000 scholarship was created for a local, deserving student wishing to study at an overseas college or university.

This year's scholarship recipient is Uthmani Talbot. Mr Talbot, 19, attended Berkeley Institute and was head boy in the 2006/2007 term.

He was also Bermuda's Most Outstanding Teen in the Scholastic Achievement category and the captain of his KO Championship Winning High School Soccer Team.

He is currently at George Mason University in Fairfax County, Virginia. "I intend to continue my studies overseas," he told The Royal Gazette.

"I hope to graduate from George Mason University with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting and a Minor in English Creative Writing. I plan to return and work here in Bermuda for one of the major companies.

"The cost of continuing my university education is continuously rising. Without the help of scholarships and awards I simply would not be able to afford the opportunity to study and pursue my dream.

"Education is an important part of both my present and future and I will always strive for excellence in all of my endeavours."
