An exhibit of mutimedia works by Lynn Morrell

Artist Lynn Morrell’s work is now on display at the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard.‘Over the Edge’ opened Sunday and is an exhibit of multimedia works.“I am a multimedia artist using metal, fabric, paper, paint, twigs not necessarily all together and anything else useful to get my images and ideas across,” Ms Morrell said.“My primary interest is metalwork, but for this show I’m using my second love, fabric, to express my ideas about the open ocean.“I have always loved textiles and fabric and some of my earliest memories are of sitting at my grandmother’s feet and listening to the rhythmic sounds of her Treadle sewing machine, which I still have.”The idea for this show came while on her son’s boat.“We were sailing off St David’s and I remarked on the abrupt colour change in the sea from turquoise to deep teal and he told me that it is referred to as ‘going over the edge’.“The words stuck in my head and I decided to explore them. The ocean is in such trouble with pollution, global warming and trash. We must take notice and do something about it.“I hope my pieces will remind everyone of what we all stand to lose if the balance tips ‘over the edge’.”The show runs until May 8.
