Tomorrow’s Voices will host a ‘Bounce for Autism’ fun day on Saturday
Southampton Rangers will be abuzz with ‘bouncing’ children at a fundraising event put on by autism charity Tomorrow’s Voices this weekend.‘Bounce for Autism Fun Day’ is aiming to attract scores of young people from 1pm to 10pm on Saturday with bouncy castles and slides, edible treats and local entertainment.Charity co-founder Thea Furbert said the organisation was hoping to raise at least $20,000 to help with operational costs of the programme, which run up to $500,000 a year.Tomorrow’s Voices is currently working with 11 autistic children to improve their academics, play and social skills and behaviour management.Parents are only required to pay for 25 percent of the programme costs; while the remainder is paid for through grants, donations and fundraisers.Ms Furbert said it was important for the community to support the cause. She believed the event would be enjoyable for the whole family.“We hope all come out to enjoy the day. It’s a family day and gives people the opportunity to spend time with children that may be different.“Most of the time children on the fun castle they all look the same, so you won’t be able to tell a child with special needs from one who is typical.”Tomorrow’s Voices will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as cotton candy, snowballs and popcorn at the event. There will also be appearances by the PHC majorettes and the Acting Minister of Health; and games and door prizes.Ms Furbert thanked all the event sponsors, which include: Fun Tyme Entertainment, MarketPlace, D&J Construction, Arnold’s Discount Warehouse, Digicel and Belco. The charity is currently looking for more volunteers and sponsors to help with the event.
