Butler and Smith set to battle for fish cake title
Wannabe fishcake king Dale Butler threw down a challenge to perennial rival Rodney Smith to find out once again, who makes the best fishcakes.Today (Thursday) at 4pm they will have the battle of the fishcakes at Warwick Workman’s Club.“Teachers and taxi drivers [and everyone else] can eat [the fishcakes] for $10,” he said. “In these economic times it is a real treat to get a great Bermudian meal from two of Bermuda’s sons. We are known for promoting the fishcake everywhere as a national symbol that brings the races together.”The person who runs out of fishcakes first is declared the winner.Each year, the two make over 1000 fishcakes in an effort to raise money for the Pastor Eugene Virgil Financial Award. The scholarship is given to students who wish to attend the Bermuda College. Money from the fishcake battle will also fund a seniors tea on November 6.Mr Smith won the competition last year.
