Celebrating young people who make a difference

Here's to you: CableVision's celebration of young people and their mentors at their annual Salute to Service banquet on Saturday will feature performances by a variety of performing arts groups, including the Warwick Academy Jazz Band under the direction of Kent Hayward.

This year, young people will be in the spotlight at Bermuda CableVision’s annual Salute to Service banquet. This special evening will be held in the Gardenia Rooms at the Fairmont Southampton on January 14. The evening, with the theme “A Celebration of our Children”, will begin with a wine reception at 7pm, followed by dinner at 8pm. It will be dedicated solely to recognising the positive role that young people have to play in this community, while paying homage to the adults that raise them to do just that.In contrast to previous years, there will be no guest speaker to address the audience. Instead the Island’s children will provide the evening’s entertainment. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Bermuda Institute Steel Band, Bermuda School of Music Steel Band, the CedarBridge Academy Orchestra, Shine’s School of Music and the Warwick Academy Jazz Band. The Bermuda Institute School Choir, Precious Melodies and St George’s Preparatory School Choir will present choral works, and percussion pieces will be performed by the Eddie Ming Drum School and Sandys Secondary Middle School Drum line. There will also be dance presentations by The Berkeley Institute Dance Ensemble, the Bermuda Squad Dance Group, the Graffiti Dance Crew, Sea Breeze Salsa Dancers the Troika Dance Group and United Dance Productions. In keeping with the theme, dinner will be served family style at your table.Tickets for the black tie event are priced at $100, and can be booked by calling 292-5544
