Sponsorship deal struck after ‘wonderful lifetime experience’

After Bermudian business analyst Wayne Dill took part in a gruelling competition in Borneo to raise money for a local youth programme, his company, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has agreed to follow his lead.Mr Dill raised almost $1,000 for Raleigh International Bermuda, a developmental programme for Bermudian young people between the ages of 17 and 25, that usually culminates in a physical challenge and community service in another country. To raise the money Mr Dill, Dueane Dill and Philip Faries took part in the Kota Kinabalu Challenge in Borneo, where they competed with teams from around the world to climb the highest mountain in southeast Asia, and in bicycling, rafting and running challenges. Now, his company, PwC, has agreed to sponsor one Bermudian to take part in the Raleigh programme.“That makes everything worthwhile,” said Mr Dill. “If I could have the same outcome a second time, I would do it all again, gladly. It was a wonderful lifetime experience.”He also thanked Raleigh Executive Director Kristin White for her support and encouragement.“Obviously, we are thrilled that PwC are supporting our programme,” said Ms White. “We will be keeping them updated about the progress of the young person they select. It will be a great relationship for Raleigh and PwC.”She said so far 11 locals had taken part in the Kota Kinabalu Challenge to support Raleigh over the last three years.“We feel it opens an avenue for the adults to be inspired by the young people,” said Ms White. “Once an adult goes through the physical, emotional and cultural challenges of the Kota Kinabalu Challenge which is only for a week they can have a better understanding of what the young people do for ten weeks during the Raleigh programme.”For more information about Raleigh go to www.raleigh.bm
