Free cancer health presentation for men
Teaching men how to recognise early cancer symptoms and get proper screenings will be the focus of a free health presentation this evening.Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s Education Officer Rhonda Smith-Simmons will give a presentation, Male Cancer Checked Out.The presentation will focus on cancers that commonly affect men such as prostate and testicular cancer. The event starts at 5.45pm at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre on Point Finger Road. Women are also invited to attend.“One of the things that we heard in February as a reason why they are not (visiting their doctor) is financial,” said Mrs Smith-Simmons.“We have done this before and are doing it again this year where we are offering a voucher which a man can use at any doctor’s office on the Island to get a free physical, including a prostate exam if deemed necessary. We were looking to support men 40 and over, however we have had applications from men younger than 40 and we are not turning people away.“The vouchers are good for men who have no insurance at all or who fall under a plan that would not pay for them to go see their doctor to have a full physical.”For more information or to register for the presentation, contact Bermuda Cancer and Health: info@chc.bm or 236-0949.
