Is your mom one in a million?
Today The Royal Gazette is calling our readers to help us find the Island’s ‘Mom in a Million’.However old you are, you have a mom and we want to know why yours deserves to win the top prize of flowers for a year, sponsored by DEMCO Floral Services.Just submit 200 words on how a special lady in your life has offered encouragement, or support, and shaped you into the person you are today. This could be a mom, stepmom, mother-in-law or foster parent who taught you important life lessons, helped pay your way through college, or supported you through a rough time or illness. Whatever it is that sets your mom apart, we want to hear about it.Acting Editor Jeremy Deacon said he was delighted to be able to offer this competition to readers. “There are so many awesome mothers out there who go beyond the call of duty to make sure their children are happy and healthy,” he said.“We want to honour some of these special moms for all the hard work they do behind the scenes for their families and let them know they are valued and appreciated.”A host of wonderful prizes will be on offer — with the first place winner taking home a DEMCO floral creation every month for a year (from May 2013 until April 2014). The flowers will vary from month to month, and will include special occasion creations for Christmas, Valentine’s, Easter — and of course Mother’s Day.The second prize winner will take home a $100 DEMCO gift certificate; with third place getting a $50 gift certificate. The competition is open to people of all ages.Carmen Phillips, the owner of DEMCO, said motherhood was extremely important to all its staff, which is why they jumped at the chance to pay tribute to some of those great moms on the Island.“There is nothing really in life that is more important than being a mother, and raising the next generation to be good and kind people,” Ms Phillips said.“DEMCOs Mother’s Day quote over the past few years has been based on an Irish Proverb that says ‘A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.’“And because there are so many things that moms do that go unsaluted, when we got the chance to salute three who go that extra mile we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity,” she added.Competition forms can be found in this newspaper and need to be filled out and dropped off with your written submission to one of the following locations: The Royal Gazette’s office, on Par-La-Ville Road, Hamilton, DEMCO Floral Services, located on 14 South Road, Devonshire, or the Stationery Store on Reid Street. The deadline is April 19, and winners are set to be announced in our special Mother’s Day supplement published on May 2.
