Overcoming my fear and kayaking at sunset
This is an experience that I never thought I would do. I went on a Sunset and Night Encounter tour with Crystal Clear Kayaks in Somerset on Daniel’s Head beach. While preparing to take the tour on the kayak, I was really afraid. Afraid of what, you might ask? Well, something possibly going wrong while on the water on this tour.I was on a tour with two tour guides and a couple who were joining us on the adventure. Each of us was given a life jacket and one of the tour guides told me he was a lifeguard and trained in CPR. I felt a little better knowing that.I was waiting for the time to come and, out of the uncertainties and worries in the back of my head, I asked questions just to make sure if this was the right thing for me to do.Can I go on a kayak with another person? I wasn’t feeling confident about doing it solo. What did I get myself into now? Oh well, I’m here now I might as well do it and hopefully nothing goes wrong. Before leaving we were taught how use the paddle and it was pretty straightforward.A while back I had decided that I wanted to face my fears in life and not be crippled by things that I was afraid to do. Without even thinking about it I was facing my fear of the unknown and going out in deeper water unplanned. As we were heading out on the water in the kayak I had more questions, and in my mind I was thinking about the ending part of this adventure.Krista, who was one of the tour guides that shared a kayak with me, kindly assured me that I will be fine.Along this water journey I could even see more of the beauty that Bermuda has. Bermuda is a very beautiful place. We made our way out to feed the fish at the shipwreck, which is called the Vixen. In the process of getting there we saw the beautiful coral in the water.By the time we reached the Vixen I was more relaxed and comfortable. There we fed the fish with bread that we were given. This wasn’t so bad after all.We continued paddling and saw the beautiful sunset that lit up the sky. It was a great picture to take only that it’s a risk to travel with the camera on the kayak with the possiblity of dropping your camera in the water then it’s gone. Before I knew it we were heading closer to a full moon. It was different to see it on the boat than seeing it on land. What an experience of all the beauty I was seeing on the Island.I was having so much fun once I began to relax and stop worrying. After passing the moon we headed back to shore. While heading back I saw the lights on the other boats that were coming from the clear bottom of the kayak.I faced my fear of going out in the deep and it was a great experience. You never know how something could go unless you try.Of course safety must be first, but we could possibly miss out on a lot just by being controlled by our fears. Sometimes we may need to be brave by just doing it afraid. I would like to thank all the staff of Crystal Clear Kayaks for such a wonderful time out on the ocean!Crystal Clear Kayaks was an excellent tour adventure on the sea and I recommend those who enjoy sea activities or perhaps want to try something new to give it a try.l To contact them for more information you can reach them at 595-2925.
