Astwood thriving in ministry in Florida
Bermudian gospel singer Tricray Astwood has been enjoying his time ministering as a music director and worship pastor at FaithWorld Port St Lucie in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Mr Astwood spoke with The Royal Gazette about his experience in the Sunshine State.Q: What is your latest news?A: I’ve really just been focusing on my new position as worship pastor, making sure that I develop into the calling as best as I can. I’ve sort of put my ministry as a recording artist on hold. Not to worry, next year I’ll be back on the road doing my thing while still worship pastoring.Q: How has your experience been so far as a worship pastor?A: Nothing short of amazing! I’ve always led worship but I’ve never been the head of a music ministry. I didn’t realise how much work it really was and how much prayer you need to effectively fulfil the role.Q: What are some of your tasks as a music director?A: I am completely responsible for all music and arts within FaithWorld Port St Lucie. I do everything from select songs, plan special services, run rehearsals, organise outreach events, and of course lead worship for all services. I also have to counsel and train members of my team.Q: What have you learned as a result of ministering internationally?A: I’ve learned how to function in almost any arena. Each church and denomination and ethnicity has different styles of praise and worship. I’ve learned to embrace their individual styles, but not compromise who God has called me to be in ministry.Q: Have you recorded any new music? Are you currently working on any new projects?A: No I haven’t recorded any music but God is speaking to me and I am writing some really great praise and worship music. There will be more on that side of the ministry next year in 2014.Q: What has been your favourite memory since moving to Florida?A: I woke up one Sunday morning feeling strongly in my spirit that God was going to do something supernatural in service. Praise and worship was really, really intense that day, and when my pastor started preaching the Holy Spirit fell greatly upon the church. I felt led to pray and lay hands on one lady that was at the altar. It was the first time I had ever laid hands on anyone and the spirit fell so strong it caused her to drop to the floor. When she got off the floor I heard God tell me to get one of my female choir members to talk to her. Come to find out, that day she was planning to commit suicide but because of our obedience she decided to choose life! It was a very important lesson for me; always, always, always be sensitive and obedient to the spirit as a minister. Lives depend on it!Q: What are some of the highlights of your experiences?A: The main highlight would be to see my gifting grow, and my choir/band grow. With every week it seems we go higher and higher as individuals and as a group. I’ve also had the opportunity to be in the company and share the stage with some generals in the kingdom and music ministry such as Paula White, Sheryl Brady, Tasha Cobbs, Eddie James, Vicky Yohe and of course my pastor, Shane Perry, and Bishop Clint Brown.Q: Have you been doing anything new outside of music?A: I’m definitely developing as person, a man, and as a Christian. Some things I’ll keep to myself for now. I am getting into fitness and health though.Q: How did it feel like to change from living here in Bermuda to staying in the US?A: I lived in the US for three years while I was at Full Sail University, so it wasn’t difficult at all. I love Florida and it’s actually my first choice for residence.Q: Do you have any additional comments that you would like to add?A: I’d just like to encourage anyone wanting to pursue a full-time career in ministry. Don’t give up and don’t allow anything or anyone to tell you that you can’t. Just because you live in Bermuda does not mean that you cannot be global! Stay in prayer and guard your anointing.
