Prison Fellowship Bermuda hosts a week of Prayer for Prisons

This week local charity Prison Fellowship Bermuda is encouraging the public to turn its thoughts to the men and women in prison.

From now until Sunday, the organisation will be joining with local churches and community members in prayer. They also hope to highlight the opportunities that people can get involved in to help all those affected by crime - including victims of crime and their families, prisoners, prisoners’ families, ex-prisoners, corrections, criminal justice officials and prison chaplains.

Activities for the remainder of the week include:

Today: Prayer vigil for victims of crime, the justice system, prison authorities, inmates, and the families of all: Cathedral of Most Holy Trinity, 9am-5pm – All are welcome.

Tomorrow: Prayer at Westgate facility – public not included.

Saturday: Angel Tree party at Westgate facility – public not included.

Sunday: A special Hour of Power Prayertime at Better Covenant Christian Fellowship, starting at 9.45am – All are welcome to pray and to stay for the 11am service.

*There will also be an Angel Tree party at Co-Ed facility on December 21, but the general public is not able to attend.

Prison Fellowship volunteers are also currently involved with their annual Angel Tree Gift Giving Programme, which encourages people in the community to donate gifts that will go to the children and families of inmates; many of whom are often stigmatized and facing hardship while their loved-ones serve out their time of incarceration.

Anyone interested in donating towards Prison Fellowship’s holiday gift giving scheme can donate to their HSBC Bank of Bermuda Account #010-400349-001 or send a cheque to PO Box SB279, Somerset SBBX.

Any additional funds will go towards the charity’s general fund to be used in our other programmes, such as its Summer Camp Sponsorship Programme, the Back-to-School Programme, BookConnect or Restorative Justice activities.
