Glorifying Him through Hip Hop music

Christian rapper Mashundae Pearman recently reached a new milestone in her music career when she learned her song ‘He’s Worthy’ made it onto the iTunes hip hop music chart. (

Gospel rap artist Mashundae Pearman was greeted with a big shock this week when she came into work to learn her latest single had made it into the top 100 songs on the iTunes chart.

She said: “On Monday one of my co-workers pulls out his iPhone and said ‘Your new single is #83 on iTunes, out of 300 for the top hip hop songs!’.

“I thought he was being sarcastic, until I saw it for myself. Low and behold he was right.”

Her new single called ‘He’s Worthy’ is currently on par with other top selling artists from around the world, such as American hip hop duo Mobb Deep.

Ms Pearman said: “I don’t know who is buying my music, but I’m thankful. To God be the glory!”

The song was first released on the artist’s birthday event last week at Margarita Grill.

She said it was inspired by an old church hymn of the same name that she listened to growing up at First Church of God on North Shore.

“It’s always been one of my favourite hymns,” she explained.

She told The Royal Gazette that “words couldn’t explain” how happy she was that the song was actually being heard.

She immediately posted about the accomplishment on Facebook and considers it a huge milestone for her career in music.

“It only encourages me more to strive to be the best,” she added.

Ms Pearman said she was in the process of working on a music video for ‘He’s Worthy’, featuring local gospel reggae artist Whopper Benz.

Her next single is dedicated to some people close to her heart who were lost over the past few years — and she is expected to release a new album before the end of 2014.

She said she doesn’t want people to just enjoy her music for its positive message, but rather see it as a sound that glories God.

“There are many people who don’t believe in God, and I can’t speak for anybody else, but God has done so much for me, there is no way I can deny him, or his existence.

“I’m not perfect and I don’t do everything right, but one thing is for certain — I will never turn my back on God!

“And the best thing that I can do is worship and glorify Him through my music. God gave me this talent, and I’m giving it back to Him, because just like the song says He is worthy.”

She said God has been working in her life and music a lot over the past few years. Although she is generally a shy and quiet person, when she steps onto the stage she becomes a totally different person.

“I love what I do,” she continued. “Only God can take a young girl who stutters and who is scared of crowds and put on her out in the forefront and make her a gospel artist. That’s awesome.”
