Your holiday best can be as easy as 1, 2, 3

Make-up designer Kristos Clarke, the CEO/owner of GLAMINC, shows off a holiday make-up trend — a smoky eye with reflects glitters.

Looking your best this holiday season might be as simple as one, two, three.

That’s according to a few local style mavens who gave The Royal Gazette Lifestyle section their suggestions for how to stand out this season. So whether you’re looking to be the stunner at an office Christmas party or shine at a New Year’s Eve bash, here are some of the best tips for hair, make-up and festive fashion provided by beauty professionals.

Stylist Renee Carter’s tips to getting the best holiday hair:

1. Make sure you’re looking brilliant in those holiday pictures by topping up your colour. She recommended that people use a glaze to add great sheen to over-coloured or dull hair.

2. If you’re looking to add some drama to your do, clip-in extensions can add length, volume and colour without causing damage to your hair. Just avoid any catfights when you have them in, she joked.

3. Try out a new look, such as a double braid across the front of your hair. It gives the look of an accessory and also looks polished.

How to: Part the hair ear to ear across the top of your head then divide the front into two rows. Braid one piece of hair in one direction securing the finished braid just behind the ear, repeating the same on the other side in the opposite direction. With the remainder of the hair, curl it in big bold loose curls. She also recommended using a thermal product prior to curling the hair. Once the curls are cooled finger loosely then spray with holding spray of your choice.

Make-up artist Kristos Clarke recommends adding these three simple trends for the perfect holiday look:

1. Looking to amp up the drama this season? Try a smoky eye or cat-eye liner look, paired with dark lip colours such as Glam Inc’s Spy, MAC’s Talk That Talk or Cyber. Just condition your lips with a rich balm, then line and fill them in for a long-lasting effect.

2. Santa isn’t the only one who can wear red this season. According to Ms Clarke, bold, red lips are a hot commodity for Christmas parties and winter weekend outings. She recommended using matte textures, which last longer and don’t need as many touch-ups.

3. You can’t go wrong with sparkle this winter. Ms Clarke recommends using an eyelash adhesive from Duo when applying glitter. “Add your cream [foundation] base or shadow and a thin layer of Duo and use your finger to pat on glitter lightly,” she explained.

Fashion designer Kiara Richardson said you can look polished this season by making sure you add these three styles to your wardrobe:

1. Sequins and glittery dresses are always eye-catching, the designer said. But if you go with a sequin or glittery dress, don’t over-accessorise and keep shoes simple by sticking with a solid colour.

2. Red is a great festive colour and looks great on almost everyone, Ms Richardson said. Trying a red, black or white dress this holiday will be sure to turn heads. Plus if you go with something simple, you can always jazz it up with accessories and a great pair of statement heels.

3. Gowns are very popular this holiday season, according to Ms Richardson. She recommended a sexy, modest but elegant evening dress for any New Year’s party you’re attending, but said it doesn’t have to be completely over the top or show too much skin. “[It’s best to go with something] simple that you’ll feel comfortable in for the night. [It] will boost your confidence and help you stand out and you will definitely look good.”
