By Nadia ArandjelovicThe sun was out in full force this week to remind us that summer is only a few short months away. And The Royal Gazette’s Lifestyle Section tracked down a handful of stylish men and women who were already getting into the warm weather spirit by showcasing their style on the streets of Hamilton. We got to hear what inspires their everyday style choices and hear some of their advice on what people can do to continue looking ‘hot’ as we inch closer to Spring on March 20.Massage therapist Megan Glenn, said she tends to gravitate towards feminine styles and prints in neutral colours.“I like things that are a little edgy as well,” she said. “On a night out I might go with more bold colours, but in the day I like things that are neutral and pair it with colourful shoes.”The 23-year-old, from Atlanta, said she gets fashion inspiration from magazines like Vogue. She also likes to look at what’s popular in places like New York and London. Her accessory of choice is a pair of high heels. “They put it all together and make your outfit look polished,” she said. “It’s an eye-catcher and just brings everything together.”Friend and fellow beauty-therapist Anna Mcalary, 23, described her style as being more ‘hippie’.“I like bold colours and to look casual and comfy,” she said. “When it comes to accessories I love everything. It spices it up and makes you stand out from the rest.”Miss Mcalary looks for inspiration on websites like Pinterest; and also enjoys going window shopping to see what the mannequins have on.But when it comes to dressing for the summer, stores like Making Waves and Sail On carry some of the brands she loves.“It’s all about wearing colours” she said. “Bright colours are great in the summer time because it’s Bermuda and colours are all around us.”Marco Santos, 34, couldn’t pin down his look to just one style, instead he tries to ‘mix up’ his outfits on a regular basis — from preppy some days to more masculine chic on others. As a salesman at The Edge, Mr Santos said he keeps up on the latest trends in male fashion by looking through magazines like GQ and social media sites like Facebook. And when it comes to accessories like shoes, he said he tends to look for unique pieces made by eco-friendly design lines.“I have a pair of shoes from John Varvatos that are made out of recycled materials,” he said. “I look for things that are different or organic. I don’t wear leather of fur, but might go for something that has the look of leather.“I try to think more about where the products are sourced from,” he added. His advice to men looking to stay on trend in the warmer months is to just be themselves.“Guys come in sometimes and say I want this jacket off of TV, which helps me as a salesperson,” he said. “But just being yourself and finding your own look is usually better. Following trends is good, but don’t overdo it.”Twenty-three-year-old Ade Brown described his business style as smart casual. He said he typically looked for round toe shoes or shoes with designs on them, but said another big accessory this season were tie clips. He shops at affordable places like H&M, Aldo and Forever 21 whenever he is overseas. While friend Freddy Wade, a 22-year-old insurance intern, said he wasn’t interested in any particular name brand clothes.Instead he just looks for pieces that have the right kind of fit — “not too tight or not to baggy”.He agreed that tie clips were a good accessory for men, but said watches also help to complete a man’s look.
