Studio to open with a bang
A local drum studio which has been under renovation for three years is looking to open up with a bang this week.
Eddie Ming’s Rhythm Lab in St George’s will have its official opening ceremony tomorrow at 7.30pm.
There will be food and refreshments available for attendees, who can also enjoy music by the drum students and other local entertainers.
Progressive Labour Party Leader Marc Bean has also been invited as a special guest at the opening.
Mr Ming said renovations had taken longer than expected due to the weather and other issues, but admitted he was excited the new facility was done.
“It’s quite a relief to know that we are back up and running,” Mr Ming said.
“We have support from the Bermuda Arts Council which is giving my students a grant to go to our fifth cultural exchange programme this summer in New York City, so with this new space we are really going to push hard to play catch up.”
While the music school was under renovations, Mr Ming said students were still “in motion”. But he added that “there’s nothing like when you are your own studio and have access to your own equipment and everything like that.
“We now have numerous drum sets that the students can use to practice anytime they have a free moment.
“And a lot of times the parents can’t afford drum sets at home or can’t handle the noise in the house.”
He said that part of the requirement for students going overseas is that they have to practice at least three hours a day — and the new studio will get them ready to meet that goal.
“I will start to develop them so they can learn to practice without any supervision,” Mr Ming added.
