Expanding your wardrobe empire

Most girls have been there ... that time when they go through their closet and sift through dozens of pieces and still can’t find that perfect thing to wear.

The Royal Gazette’s Lifestyle section took to the city streets this week armed with the question: If you could buy one thing tomorrow to complete your wardrobe what would it be?

For Emma Pearson, 25, the ideal piece to buy would be a nice, simple handbag.

“I really need one right now. And the nice thing about a handbag is it lasts a long time and depending on what you wear it can really dress your outfit up or down,” she said.

Ms Pearson admitted she loved neutrals and wearing anything that’s easy and timeless.

“I try not to mix and match too much, for me simple is classic,” she said. “I’m mostly inspired by people in the street, but I also get fashion advice by looking at high fashion as well on the runway.”

Shahnel Woodley said if she could buy something next it would probably be a pair of stilettos. “I love a heel because you can dress it up and down and wear it anywhere.

“You can pair it with jeans if you want to wear something casual and it still looks good. Or you can dress them up, it all depends on how you work it.”

She said she was inspired by magazines, but also watched celebrities like Rihanna and Beyoncé to see their latest red carpet styles.

The insurance worker described her style as being laid back, but said she also loves funky items that help her to stand out.

The 26-year-old said: “Sometimes when I am supposed to be casual I will be in bright colours. I try to be original with it. Sometimes I take things that are supposed to be classic and put a twist on it.”

Hymesha Williams said her item of choice, if money wasn’t an issue, would be a pair of shoes by a luxury French shoe and bag designer. She said: “I would buy the same shoes worn by Christina Aguilera from Christian Louboutin in that movie Burlesque. I really liked them and haven’t seen anyone else in them since.”

Ms Williams described her style as being “a little bit of everything”, but admitted she dresses for herself and doesn’t like to follow trends.

She mostly gets fashion inspiration from blogs and said she enjoys looking through thrift store finds as well.
