The role of art is vital to the evolution and progress of society.

It develops creative and alternative thinking skills in education; skills that are required to fully participate and interpret a changing world.

There is the rise of the “citizen artist” who seeks to balance the complexities of creative idealism, entrepreneurial verve and a genuine commitment to society in a sustainable way.

Artistic innovation is shifting to countries like Brazil, India and the African continent.

There is no denying that music, theatre, dance and the visual arts are necessary activities that enhance society.

Where would we be without the arts and their dependent institutions and facilities such as galleries, museums, theatres and concert halls?

While the value of art and its meaning is debatable and often very personal; a stark reality is that art advocacy and its vocation is the greatest enrichment to — and the essence of — our society.

Henry Miller said it best, “Art teaches nothing except the significance of life”.
