Get creative with your Cup Match ribbon for photo competition

Getting tagged early: Martha Dismont, Family Centre’s executive director, pinning Cup Match tags on two young Cup Match fans

Say cheese! The Family Centre is holding a photo contest to celebrate the upcoming Cup Match holiday.

The charity is asking people to post a creative photo of themselves with Cup Match ribbons purchased from Family Centre. The winner of the photo contest will receive a $250 grocery voucher for The MarketPlace Ltd.

Ribbons can be purchased in advance now in outlets across Hamilton and Bermuda, such as Esso City Centre and Java Jive, or on Tag Day on July 30.

“The excitement of Cup Match is sweeping the Island, and Family Centre is once again providing Somerset and St George’s fans with their traditional Cup Match ribbons,” said Martha Dismount, executive director of Family Centre. “For 19 years, Family Centre has held its annual Tag Day the day before Cup Match, and this year is no different.”

She said the tag day was not only a fundraiser but also an opportunity to remind the community of the urgent needs children and families are facing in Bermuda. Family Centre provided support to close to 900 families in 2013. The charity gives urgent support services to children who are suffering from family-based problems.

“We are preventing problems through our work with children and families in the community, and building a foundation of strong families,” she said. “We need everyone in Bermuda to support these efforts.”

Clarien Bank is the title sponsor of Family Centre’s public Tag Day appeal again this year. The bank began partnering with Family Centre on the event in 2001.

Michael DeCouto, chief marketing officer for Clarien Bank, said: “Clarien Bank Limited is pleased to be able to continue to support the Family Centre Annual Cup Match Ribbon Tag Day. The partnership now in its 13th year demonstrates our commitment to the Bermuda community. The work of the Family Centre is critical to the success of families in Bermuda. As a result we encourage all Bermudians to join us in giving to this most important charitable initiative.”

Mrs Dismont said she was grateful to have the support of Clarien Bank.

“This continued support is critical to continuing services to at risk families,” she said. “Bermuda’s future depends on the strength of the children and families who live here. Whether your colours are red and blue or blue and blue, Family Centre is encouraging you to buy a tag, share a tag, give a child a chance. ‘Tag, you’re it!’”

Family Centre is looking for more volunteer taggers. If you would like to volunteer at one of their tag stations, call 232-1116.

The winner of the photo competition will be chosen and announced on July 30 and the number of “likes” each photo receives will affect the judges’ decisions. Photos can be posted to www.facebook.com/familycentrebda or sent to sarah@tfc.prevention.bm.
