Allantae Basden was just trying to calm down a frustrated customer.

She had no idea she’d get anything out of it.

Soca versus Reggae organisers presented the 25-year-old with a certificate of excellence this week because of her efforts.

It’s the second of three “random blessings” they intend to bestow on people they see providing stellar customer service.

Ms Basden said she was surprised by the honour; as far as she was concerned she was just doing her job.

“One of the organisers came into the store a little frustrated with service he’d received from a competitor,” said the customer service representative at Logic Communications.

“I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I do remember he was frustrated. I said, ‘It’s okay, I will help as much as I can’.

“When he left he was much calmer and said it was much better coming into a place where he didn’t have to deal with what he was dealing with before.”

The man promised to publicly express his appreciation for what she’d done. Ms Basden said she thought nothing of it.

“We’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to think about it,” she said. “Sometimes customers remember us, sometimes they don’t but one day he stopped by and asked where my manager was.”

In addition to the certificate of excellence, Ms Basden received tickets to SvR’s annual Cup Match concert and a goodie bag.

SvR spokesperson Vejay Steede said the committee selected the customer service rep because she was “very friendly, understanding and tactful”.

“We felt she displayed the textbook definition of good customer service,” he said.

Ms Basden started working at the telecommunications company last year. Prior to that she’d worked as a front desk agent at Grotto Bay Beach Resort. While there, she was singled out for her standard of service on Trip Advisor by several of the Hamilton Parish hotel’s guests.

“I’m really a people person. Everyone has time when they’re not at their best but it’s something you adapt to,” she said.

SvR organisers honoured Rubis gas attendant Hopde Burrows with their first “random blessing” last month.

The pair will be rooting for opposite genres of music at the July 31 concert. Mr Burrows is a “huge reggae fan”; Ms Basden prefers soca.

* SvR organisers yesterday said remained hopeful of getting concert headliner Beenie Man here despite the travel restrictions recently placed on him.

“Rest assured that we are working assiduously to get Beenie Man to Bermuda for our signature Cup Match event,” a spokesman said.

“Also, we are very much prepared to present a stellar experience in the event that Beenie Man’s restrictions prove insurmountable for this summer. SvR is a celebration of all things Caribbean and spectacular; as such, we guarantee that the SvR experience will NOT be dampened in any way if Beenie Man is unable to travel to Bermuda. An announcement regarding any potential line up change will be made soon.”
