Kabaka Pyramid will perform at the launch of Dubwise Bermuda next week.

The rising star from Kingston Jamaica is known for his “unique musical style”; he blends the lyricism of hip hop with the energy and melody of dancehall and reggae.

Never Gonna Be A Slave, Free from Chains and Mi Alright are original works that have taken him to the top of Billboard’s Next Big Sound Charts. In 2013 he was named Breakthough Artist of the Year by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association; the following year he received a Juno Award for Strive, a collaboration with reggae singer Esco Levi.

He’ll perform live at BAA Gym on April 9, as part of the Dubwise movement. Born in Jamaica, it’s since travelled the world as an effort to reintroduce authentic dub reggae to mainstream audiences.

Yaadcore, the founder of the Dubwise movement and personal DJ for reggae artist Protoje, will also perform at next month’s concert. The pair will be joined by local reggae artist Stevie Dread and sound systems Souljah 1, Stalwart, Prophecy and Blackstar.

Tickets for the 9pm concert cost $30 on www.ptix.bm and Rubis’ South Shore, Warwick, North Shore, East Broadway and Robinson’s gas stations. Tickets are $40 at the door.
