What it means to ‘do it like a girl’
It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this weekend we observed the International Day of the Girl — plenty to celebrate.
With that in mind, I felt it was only fitting to write an article about the incredible women who inspire me daily.
Whether it be the dedicated group of moms who attend class every morning before their children wake — giving it everything they have — or the women who continually redefine what it means to “lift/run/jump like a girl”.
Every day I am privileged to work alongside women who encompass the word ‘strong’.
These women wear many hats: the lady bosses, the supermoms, the corporate powerhouses, the entrepreneurs and those women who are all of the above. These women are redefining the roles we play in society as well as in the gym or sport.
Whether it be Jessamyn Stanley, who is redefining what a yoga body looks like, or Alchemy’s Panzy Olander, who will outlift most of the boys in the room, we are breaking down the stereotypes of what girl strength looks like. Women are the new definition of strength. We tend to have this misconception that strength is measured in physical appearance, but it goes far beyond this. The strongest women I work with are the women who are terrified to start, but step through the door anyway. We all have had that fear of the unknown, that knot in the pit of the stomach.
This invisible strength is what inspires even the fittest women in the gym.
As we celebrate women this month, I encourage you to redefine female strength. (You too guys!)
