Music, food and art on offer at the Botanical Gardens tonight
Looking for something new to do Friday evenings? If so head to the Botanical Gardens.
Set amongst one of the most pristine gardens on the Island, live music, food and art will be on offer at the newest happy hour, Live In The Gardens.
Every Friday as part of this summer’s Department of Tourism Nightlife line up locals and tourists can catch the “Fever Train” from the Flag Pole on Front Street and go to the Botanical Gardens to enjoy local and international acts performing while mingling among upmarket craft stalls and pursuing art on display at Masterworks.
Volcanic Productions — headed by Jon Legere and Matthew Strong, the team that organises the Halloween Party at Fort Hamilton and New Year’s Eve parties at BMDS — is billing it the “alternative happy hour”.
Mr. Legere said: “It’s for people that are a little tired of going to the same place and hearing the same thing. We want you to come and relax after a long work week listen to good music and enjoy the scenery.
“We want provide residents with culture and entertainment, people often complain there is nothing new to do on ‘the Rock’.
“We’ve always been committed to showcasing Bermuda’s art community and this is the next step. Every Friday Bermuda’s best band, Home Grown, will jam and people can relax.
“We’ll also be throwing in international acts brought in especially for our event. We’ve got funk, hip hop, rock — something different every week.
“No two weeks will be the same.
“But it’s not stuffy and it’s not pretentious. We want people to feel comfortable and relaxed.”
The event is part of the Department of Tourism’s summer nightlife line up. A spokeswoman said: “The Bermuda Department of Tourism will be working with a number of local producers to ensure that Bermuda’s nightlife in summer 2007 sizzles. “And the Department encourages residents and visitors alike to participate and support the exciting entertainment offering on tap for the upcoming season.”
The “Fever Train” will run to and from Front Street from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for people who want to leave their vehicles in the city. Parking is also available.
