Minister details Caricom meeting
Healthcare, climate change, regional security and the fortunes of air carrier LIAT were all discussed at a conference of Caribbean leaders last week.
Neletha Butterfield, Minister of the Environment, Telecommunications and e-Commerce, represented Premier Dr. Ewart Brown, at the 28th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in Barbados.
Leaders urged greater co-operation on several issues, including climate change, financial services, healthcare, agriculture and regional security.
US Congressman Charlie Rangel (Democrat-New York) also talked on issues of mutual concern between the Caribbean region and the United States.
Ms Butterfield said: "Bermuda can be proud of its continuing participation in Caricom and of the respect we receive as a sound financial centre and for our excellent infrastructure.
"Bermuda's fine reputation is well known and respected within the region and Ministerial colleagues from other islands are keen to duplicate our success in this regard."
She added: "This conference was a resounding success. The frank exchange of views and true commitment to functional co-operation within the region means we will all continue to benefit from our relationship with Caricom."
The conference ended with a review of the region's hosting of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
