Bermuda cricket team arrive in Dubai

The Bermuda cricket team arrived in Dubai last night and will have today off before the real business of the tour gets underway.Head coach David Moore has given the players some time to themselves because the next 10 days are likely to be both mentally and physically draining. When they're not playing one of their five games, the players will be in the gym, the pool, or the nets at the ICC's Global Cricket Academy. And they'll also spend time in the classroom, with Bermuda bringing sports psychologist Dr David Scott with them to help improve the players' decision making on the field.Scott, an associate professor of kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick, spends the majority of his time working with the Montreal Canadien NHL Hockey Team, and has also worked with the West Indies cricket team.Player responsibility will be a big theme on this tour, with Moore keen to get his squad to understand their roles and how it impacts on the team's chances of success.“One of the key areas for us is for each player to really understand their role in the team and for them to actually play that role out to the best of their ability,” said Moore.“It's very important for myself and the rest of the support staff to make it clear to the players what their role is going to be, and how they undertake that role if we are going to be successful."The primary purpose of Dr. Scott's work with the team will be to help the players enhance their performance by improving their mental skills. For the team to be successful we need players to be strong leaders, to be accountable, and to take responsibility for their own and their team's performance.“When players are confident, mentally tough, believe in themselves, believe in a collective vision, and trust their teammates, they look for leadership opportunities, are accountable to themselves and their teammates, and take responsibility for outcomes."
