Jail for woman driver who injured a teenager while drink driving

A woman who left a teenager with life-threatening injuries when she drove her car drunk and knocked him off his bike has been jailed for a year.Supreme Court heard today how Angela Ambrosini, 37, from Smith's, was two-and-a-half times the drink driving limit after spending the afternoon and evening of March 6 at the Hamilton Princess hotel.Around 11.20pm she was driving east along South Road, Devonshire, when her car veered into the westbound lane.It hit a wall, then flip[ped over and landed on top of 16-year-old Shakir Amory, who was riding his auxiliary cycle west in the westbound lane.Her car eventually skidded to a halt back in the eastbound lane.Ambrosini, who is director of marketing at TeleBermuda International, pleaded guilty in November to causing grievous bodily harm by driving with excess alcohol.In addition to jailing her yesterday, Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves meted out a three-year driving ban.“Nobody wins in these cases,” he said. “Everybody loses except we hope that others are persuaded never to do this nonsense again.”
