Powerful gusts hit Island
A 15ft trampoline was lifted by fierce winds and blown into a tall patch of trees during the winter storm that hit the Island last night.Homeowner Sally Ann DeSilva-Topley said the trampoline was moved several feet - from the backyard of her Sandys home into trees on neighbouring property."We do believe there was a tornado that hit our backyard during the night," she said."All was calm then suddenly torrential rain, deafening high winds and lightening occurred around 1am. Then, after a few minutes, complete silence and calm."It wasn't until a couple hours later that she noticed the trampoline wasn't in its usual spot."When I got up at 3.30am to let my dog out I noticed our 15ft heavy trampoline was gone! It took a while before I realised it had blown up and over into a tall patch of trees near our property."The Bermuda Weather Service reported 32 knot winds at LF Wade International Airport last night with gusts of 50 knots. The facility also recorded 4.1mm of rain fell yesterday. Rain is expected to continue through Sunday, when periods of gales are forecast.
