Murder trial due to begin tomorrow

A jury was selected this morning to hear the trial of a man accused of the premeditated murder of his estranged girlfriend.Jermaine Pearman, 37, denies killing 23-year-old prison officer Shakeya DeRoza on July 10, 2009.He also denies a further charge of possessing a knife on the Railway Trail in Sandys on the same date.The jury is set to hear from more than 60 witnesses, and the trial could last for up to a month.They were sent home after being selected, so administrative matters can be dealt with.Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Carrington Mahoney is due to open the case for the Crown tomorrow morning.Pearman is represented by John Perry QC and Craig Attridge.
