Fine for escaping police custody

A man was fined $1,000 today for escaping police custody on New Year's Day.Rasheed Muhammad, 20, turned himself into the Sandys Police Station yesterday and appeared in Magistrates' Court today.He pleaded guilty to the offence.The court heard Mr Muhammad was a pillion passenger on a bike that was stopped for speeding at 1am on January 1.Police asked for his name and address, they then informed him he had a warrant for his arrest."That can't be", he said, before running off. Police were unable to find him after he ran along the Railway Trail and into some bushes.He also pleaded guilty to driving without a license on November 17 and was fined $100.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner told him to pay the fine immediately.
