Police equipped with Audis and BMWs from UK
The Bermuda Police Service have invested in four pre-owned cars to expand the service's fleet.According to a spokesman, two BMWs and two Audis were purchased from the West Midlands Police for a total of £20,000 (around $31,000) for use as armed response vehicles.“Similar cars purchased new would run in excess of $75,000 each,” the spokesman said. “BMW and Audi are two of the preferred auto manufacturers used by British police as the vehicles are safer and more durable for carrying heavy equipment.”Currently one of the four vehicles is on the Island, with the other three expected to arrive by the end of the month.Negotiations to purchase the vehicles were carried out by Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield, who retired from the West Midlands Police prior to coming to the Island.
