$1,500 fine for cannabis twist
An unemployed St. George's man was in Magistrates' Court yesterday for transporting cannabis in his pant pocket.
Shaun Coddington of Ballast Point Road, St. George's pleaded guilty to possession of 0.98 grams of cannabis.
Crown counsel Nicole Smith told court that on December 19, 2006 Coddington arrived on an airline from the United States and, because of information received, was searched.
A sniffer dog was alerted to his right hand trousers pocket and after emptying his pocket a clear plastic twist with plant like material was found.
A narcotics officer cautioned and arrested Coddington.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Coddington if he had anything to say.
Coddington replied: "My boy got it for me in Baltimore. I forgot I had it. I never intended to bring it in and I went voluntarily to be searched."
Mr. Warner stated: "So you forgot you had Baltimore stuff in your pocket."
He fined Coddington $1,500 with three months jail time in default if the fine is not paid by March 8.
