Alleged gunman makes court appearance

A man accused of shooting a teenager outside the home of acquitted murder suspect Everett Jahni Bean last week appeared in Magistrates' Court, yesterday.

Lionel Eugene Jones, 24, of Heritage Lane, Sandys, was alleged to have shot 15-year-old Nicky Tucker Jr. in the foot outside Bean's home in Smith's Avenue, Warwick, last Monday night.

Jones was charged with unlawfully wounding the teenager on January 27, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; being in possession of a firearm, with intent to endanger life; discharging a firearm; and having possession of 9mm ammunition when not a holder of a firearms licence.

Jones was not asked to enter a plea as the offences will be dealt with in the Supreme Court.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves adjourned the matter until February 5 for a bail hearing.

Prosecutor Juan Wolffe appeared for the Crown and lawyer Mark Pettingill appeared for Jones.

Mr. Bean, 20, was acquitted last Monday afternoon of the murder of Tekle Zion Mallory outside the Ice Queen take-away restaurant in July of 2001.
