Breaking News: 27-year-old man injured in daylight shooting

Police from the Serious Crime Unit walk a line along Parson's Road near Two Way Deep Dale after a 27-year-old Pembroke man was shot today.

A 27-year-old Pembroke man was taken to hospital this morning after being shot while riding his bike.

The incident happened on Parsons Road at about 10.30am, near the One Stop Variety store. The victim was shot in the “lower extremities” by a gunman on a bike. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening and he was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.

People in the area at the time of the shooting called on the gunmen to stop the violence.

A woman who asked not to be named said: “They have got to stop. They have got to stop. There are children who live here.”

And another woman, who also asked not to be named, added: “This is crazy. It’s madness. They’re going to keep on shooting until some kid gets killed, and even then it won’t stop. It’s too close to home.”

Another person, a man who did not want to be named, said: “I was in my room when I heard three gunshots. It sounded like it was right outside my window.

“I just got up, made sure everyone in my house was safe and poked my head out. He was laying in the middle of the road next to a bike.”

“They were on a bike. I heard them make a turn and go north up the hill. There’s too many children around here, too many elderly people. They just don’t respect anything. They have got to stop.”

A Police spokesman said: “An active investigation into this incident is underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.”
