CedarBridge librarian is the new Clerk to the Legislature

Shernette Wolffe, former head librarian at CedarBridge Academy, has been appointed Clerk to the Legislature replacing Muriel Roach who retired last year.

Mrs. Wolffe spent five years heading up the senior secondary school's library and prior to that was a reference librarian at the Bermuda National Library and a teacher in the public school system.

“Mrs. Wolffe brings to the position qualifications in education and library science, a background in research and a keen interest in history and law,” according to a Government statement.

She took up her new post at the House of Assembly on January 13.

“As Clerk to the Legislature, Mrs. Wolffe is responsible for advising the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly and the President and Members of the Senate on matters of Parliamentary practice and procedures,” the statement added.

“Duties include communicating with various senior Government officials and local business executives concerning legislative matters; organising official functions such as the Opening of Parliament and the Speaker's Dinner and organising the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conferences and seminars in Bermuda.”

Mrs. Wolffe taught French and English for three years at the Berkeley Institute and the former Warwick Secondary School.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in foreign languages from St. Mary's University in Nova Scotia, a Master of Science in library science from Atlanta University. She also holds a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University, Ontario as well as a diploma from the University de l'Ouest in France.

And she has completed the two-year Bermuda Government Middle Management Leadership Course.
