Cursing was a private affair

A man who admitted cursing into his cell phone was given a conditional discharge yesterday after a magistrate asked a crowd in court for their opinion.

Kevin Lewis, 28, admitted using threatening words, cursing into his phone in St. George's on November 11 last year.

Lewis, of St. George's, was overheard cursing into his phone by a woman and he later drove off in his car, but was stopped by Police after the lady complained, said Crown counsel Koshea Scott.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves told the court: "A man is on a cell phone having a conversation. You people believe I should fine this man for this? It's not like he was trying to disturb the public."

Most people in the court muttered "no," so Mr. Greaves gave Lewis, of St. George's, an absolute discharge. Lewis's lawyer Peter Farge told the court: "He was on his cell and didn't realise people were around and he got agitated."
