A young man was last night fighting for his life in hospital after a road accident.

The 20-year-old Hamilton parish man was catapulted into the air after his bike collided with a Jeep.

Police say he hit the Jeep's windshield and landed on the road before his bike caught fire.

The collision happened on North Shore Road, near its junction with Coney Island Road, in Hamilton at 1.40 p.m. yesterday.

It appears that the victim was travelling west when he collided with the Jeep, which was pulling out of Tony's Fine Food.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the young man was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where his condition was last night described as critical.
