Elbow Beach Hotel will continue to be open and forthright during the investigation into the death of Andrea Bacari, said its director of communications Kendaree Burgess-Fairn at a press conference yesterday.

Mrs. Bacari, 34, was killed on Wednesday after she and her parked car were crushed by a collapsed wall which stood on the boundary between the hotel and Bermuda College.

Mrs. Burgess-Fairn acknowledged that concerns were raised at the hotel late Tuesday afternoon about developing cracks in the service road which ran just above the parking lot where Mrs. Bacari lost her life.

"Engineering staff met first thing this morning (Wednesday) but unfortunately today's tragic events overtook us," Mrs. Burgess-Fairn told The Royal Gazette at the time.

When asked why wasn't the road closed immediately after concerns were brought to light, she said she preferred not to respond as the information would be "material to the investigation."

Mrs. Burgess-Fairn also remained tight-lipped concerning allegations that subcontractors working on the hotel property voiced that the now-collapsed service road was considered unsafe.

"I don't think it's wise to make comments about what people have said publicly," she said.

However, Mrs. Burgess-Fairn said if any further developments arose, the Elbow Beach would keep the public informed.

Meanwhile she said, she believed those looking into the incident will have answers in due time.

"We are confident that a thorough investigation will in time answer the questions that are being asked," she said.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have information concerning the incident which led to Mrs. Bicari's death. They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was travelling along the service road before the fateful incident.

They are being asked to contact Acting Chief Inspector Tracy Adams or Sergeant Keith Senior at 299-4532 or the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.
