Five injured in weekend traffic accidents

A ten-year-old girl and a teenager were both in intensive care last night following a weekend of carnage on Bermuda's roads.

A total of five people were injured in just a few hours of each other in two separate road accidents in the west end of the Island.

The first happened at 4 a.m. yesterday on Somerset Road in Sandys. A mother, father and their daughter, thought to be from Somerset, were travelling east when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash.

Last night, the ten-year-old girl was described as stable in the intensive care unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after suffering serious head injuries.

The woman was stable on a general ward, and the man was discharged from the hospital yesterday.

And two young men were injured yesterday afternoon in a head-on collision in Warwick.

The 19 year-old and 20-year-old men were riding on two motorcycles, in opposite directions, when they collided at the junction of Spice Hill Road and Sun Valley Road at about 12.30 p.m..

Both men were taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where the youngest was described as being in a critical condition in the intensive care unit last night, and the 20-year-old was described as stable on a general ward.

Anyone with information to either of the road accidents should call Police on 295-0011.
