Hamilton bus terminal still on schedule for completion this summer

Work is being done at the new Hamilton Bus Terminal on Washington Street South the construction company has said, even if little progress can be seen.

An employee of the company in charge of the dig ? Landmark Construction ? refused to answer any questions about the project's progress, but did say: "Work was going on there right now".

The employee ? who did not wish to be named ? then referred all further questions "back to Works & Engineering. They hired us to do it," he said.

Assistant director of Government's Department of Communication and Information, Valerie Pethen said: "Just because people did not see things coming up off the ground, that did not mean nothing was being done."

However, during an inspection of the site on Friday, the only structure standing off the ground was a half-finished ticket booth with no roof.

And two large holes could be seen on the corner of Church Street and Washington Street with more trenches cut near Victoria Street.

Mrs. Pethen said that work had stalled a month ago due to inclement weather but the project was still on line for completion some time this summer.

Last month she said: "The contractor has been working on the site undertaking mainly ground related construction activities.

"These include trench excavations for vaults and the ticket office foundation".
