Man denies importing ammunition and drugs

A Smith?s man denied importing ammunition, cocaine and cannabis into Bermuda last autumn.At the monthly arraignments session in Supreme Court yesterday, Dion Eugene Bassett, 26, of Cherry Dale, pleaded not guilty to importing ammunition without a licence between October 14 and November 1. He also denied possessing cocaine and cannabis allegedly intended to supply, possessing drug equipment and attempting to pervert the course of justice on November 9, 2004.

A Smith?s man denied importing ammunition, cocaine and cannabis into Bermuda last autumn.

At the monthly arraignments session in Supreme Court yesterday, Dion Eugene Bassett, 26, of Cherry Dale, pleaded not guilty to importing ammunition without a licence between October 14 and November 1. He also denied possessing cocaine and cannabis allegedly intended to supply, possessing drug equipment and attempting to pervert the course of justice on November 9, 2004.

Director of Public Prosecutions Vinette Graham-Allen said the Crown did not object to bail and asked Chief Justice Richard Ground to set the matter down for mention on May 2 when a trial date is set.

Cannoth William Roberts, 28, of no fixed abode, denied breaking into the Sung Sing Restaurant with intent to commit a felony, namely stealing, on December 18, 2004.

Roberts also pleaded not guilty to assaulting and causing bodily harm to someone at the same place and time. Mr. Justice Ground remanded Roberts in custody for mention on May 2 when his trial date will be set. A Southampton teenager pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Jermaine Nesbitt on December 6, 2004.

Giovanni Antonio Carmichael, 17, of Whaling Hill, however, was granted bail grant bail of $5,000 with one surety and will return to court on Friday.

Mr. Justice Ground warned Carmichael not to have contact with the complainant and not to get false hope that a custodial sentence wouldn?t be imposed.

Michael Eugene Douglas, 24, of no fixed abode, denied entering a home at night with intention to steal on December 14, 2004.

His bail was extended and he will re-appear in court on May 2 for mention. Chinua Jabbari Durham, 26, of Tribe Road Number Five, Paget, denied wounding Jamell Antoine Simons on June 24, 2004.

He was granted bail and will re-appear in court on May 2.
