Premier: "It cannot be business as usual"

Premier Paula Cox who talked about the first 100 days of her administration this morning.

Premier Paula Cox said today that the first 100 days of her administration were about 'recalibrating' Government. And she said the Budget had been pushed back a week because they needed more time. When asked if this Budget was difficult, she said: “There is still some work to be done. When you have people forced to change the way things have been done in the past it always presents challenges.“When you have ministries that have been reconfigured and realigned that also adds another factor to it. I think we as humans beings always resist change and sometimes change as unpalatable as it can be necessary.”She added that a review of the civil service is ongoing, but the UK consultants had not been tasked with cutting costs within the civil serviceMs Cox, along with all Government Ministers, this morning gave a progress report on the past three months. She said: “The necessary reform of Government is pivotal. During the first 100 days, Ministries have been re-calibrated so that we can raise the bar and deliver with a new integrated approach to the delivery of services.“There have been teething pains, but it is necessary that your Government change the way it does business. It cannot be business as usual.Among the highlights today were:* The moratorium on work permits for landscape workers, cleaners, kitchen and bar porters and skilled laborers, such as construction workers, will continue for another three months* The new Tourism Board, which has been tasked with creating a sound business model for the industry* The establishment of Youth Council to advise on ways to implement the Mincy Report on young black males* A reduction in crime through the help of the Gang Task Force.A statement today added: "The Cabinet Office announces that the status report outlining the new administration’s first 100 Days in office will be available to the public on the Government portal at www.gov.bm beginning at 10.00 am tomorrow, Friday 4."The report will be both in a .pdf format that can be downloaded and printed and in an electronic booklet format that can be a page-turner directly on ones computer."
