Stranded fishing boats towed in after long haul
The rescue mission involving two fishing vessels stranded to the north of Bermuda was completed on Saturday night after the Bermudian tug towed both vessels in to the Island.
The was deployed on Thursday evening after the boats ? the Newfoundland fishing vessels and ? broke down about 100 miles north of Bermuda. The boats had been in contact with Harbour Radio since Wednesday morning after experiencing engine trouble.
Weather slowed the ?s progress back in to Bermuda to just two and a half knots, and the tug was met by the pilot boat as it reached the Island. The then took one vessel through Town Cut into St. George?s Harbour while the took the other.
Three people were on board the 45-foot, while two were on board the 48-foot . All were fine ? although glad to be back on land, a Harbour Radio spokesman said last night.
The owners of the vessels had also made contact with Bermudian authorities, saying they were ?exceptionally grateful for the effort? made, the spokesman said.
