Tips flow on hunt for dog?s killer

The hunt for the killer of a dog that was chained to two concrete blocks and thrown to its death from a 50 foot sea-cliff near Spanish Point has turned up a number of clues from members of the public.

There is a $5,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to the conviction of the person responsible for the death of the young pit bull that was discovered in the water close to Admiralty House Park on January 10. Since the reward was announced a number of telephone calls have been made from members of the public wishing to pass on information.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals committee member Chris Wilcox said: ?We have sent the information to the Police Commissioner. A number of people have come forward and some of the information is quite promising. The reward offer is still open and we are looking for any further information.?

Mr. Wilcox said the SPCA is grateful to individuals and business who have come forward offer to put money into the reward fund.

One Tucker?s Town resident, who asked not to be named, boosted the reward from $1,000 to $5,000 last month after reading in about the manner of death inflicted on the dog, which had escaped from its owner?s property in Mary Victoria Road, Devonshire shortly before it was killed.

Anyone with information about the death of the pit bull should call SPCA inspector Beaman Smith or SPCA shelter manager Teresa Ince on 737-1108 or alternatively the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 1-800-623-TIPS.
