Top Island runner remanded

The law has caught up with one of Bermuda?s fastest runners.Mark Ruwan Morrison, 19, was remanded in custody yesterday after admitting a spree of breaking and entering.Morrison, of Hamilton Parish, was charged in Magistrates? Court with four counts of breaking and entering.

Between January 1 and January 3, 2004 Morrison admitted to breaking into Gabriella French?s Southampton home and stealing $200.

He pleaded guilty to stealing a Playstation 2, one controller, and numerous games from Jocelyn Morrison?s home in Smith?s on January 13. The merchandise was valued at $700.

Between November 1 and November 7, 2003 he admitted stealing $200 from Loriann Davis? home in Hamilton Parish.

He told Police he gained entry through a bathroom window.

On Christmas Day, Morrison confessed to stealing $300 and ?900 ($1,530 equivalence to Bermuda dollars) from John Burville?s Pembroke home.

Morrison, who was represented by defence lawyer Mark Pettingill, asked for all the charges to be dealt with in Magistrates? Court.

He recently finished probation for an unrelated charge. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves ordered psychological, psychiatric and probation reports to be done.

Mr. Greaves remanded him until he appears in court again on February 18 for mention.

Morrison recently finished first in the male Under-19 division in the International 10K last weekend.
