Vehicles go with the flow

The Corporation of Hamilton have placed a temporary ban on vehicles turning up Court Street from Front Street in the late afternoon in a week-long experiment to try to improve traffic flow.

Assistant City Engineer Patrick Cooper said the idea was suggested by a traffic consultant in Bermuda who was working on upgrading lights.

Mr. Cooper said he wasn't convinced it would improve flow so the test was set up which will run between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the rest of this week.

He said: "I am monitoring it. A few people didn't like the change and made the manoeuvre anyway."

King Street and Parliament Street will remain open for westbound traffic turning north.

If the experiment works a permanent change could be made within weeks but Mr. Cooper stressed changes would not be made if they hurt businesses.
