When the crane next door came to call

Appleby, Spurling and Kempe had a close call on Monday morning when a crane smashed through the wall of one of their offices, causing computer damage for several hours.

But chief executive officer James Jardine said that the damage could have been a lot worse if it were not for a quick thinking team of information technologists and administrative staff. At around 10 a.m. workers were doing construction on a Cedar Avenue building site when the crane lost control and flew through the brick wall.

However, there were no injuries and there were no evacuations as a result of the damage.

"The diggers got too close to our main building and our computer room and went through the wall," Mr. Jardine said. "The crane ended up chopping one of our main computer cables and knocked dust and debris over our terminals.

But thanks to our IT and administration staff, we were able to get the system up and running by the early afternoon."

Mr. Jardine said the room only housed the computer equipment and repairs were underway to repair the damaged wall.
