All invited to enjoy African Liberation Day
On Sunday Bermudians are invited to join millions of people around the world to celebrate African Liberation Day.
The event will be held at Fort St. Catherine Beach, which is the Island?s closest point to Africa.
It is being commemorated by the rising of the sun, at 6 a.m., on Sunday, and is being organised by the African Liberation Celebration Committee (ALCC).
ALCC organiser Marcelle Beach said: ?It is intended for all, giving us a chance to collectively reflect on Africa, its history and contribution to the world.?
Participants are encouraged to dress in white and to bring a drum if you can. It is a family occasion.
Anyone wishing to attend with special needs should contact the African Liberation Celebration Committee beforehand. Organisers added that there was another event in the evening at the ALCC Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge, at Champion?s Sports Bar & Restaurant, between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.
The night will begin with Chewstick?s open-mic jam session, where the theme will be Bermuda Roots.
The dance floor will be cleared at 11 p.m. in order to properly celebrate this global event.
Guest DJ?s Kid Fresh and Rampage will be playing until 2 a.m. and the cover charge it $10. For more information contact Gavin (Sundjata) Smith on 336 2570 or Marcelle Beach on 293-3830.
